God has blessed my life tremendously, of that there is no doubt. In order to share proof of that statement, it is necessary for me to share some of my business background and experience. It’s important that you know that in doing so, my purpose is not to build myself up in your eyes. Instead, it is so that I can give God the praise for all that He has allowed me to accomplish thus far, while knowing He’s not done with me yet! Portraying God’s faithfulness is important to me, and I promise to give God the Glory for all the wonderful ways He’s allowed me to excel.
With that said, let me confide that I bring to the table over 35 years of business experience in varied positions. Obviously, I realize that sharing that number of years as a businesswoman exposes my age a little bit! Of course, age is not something I hide, but instead choose to see as a blessing. So I’ll share that I am 56 years old, as hard as that is to believe sometimes!
D & T Construction Backstory ~
Knowing where to even begin sharing work experience is difficult. I literally started working at age 15, so that entails a lot of years.
All of the positions held, and lessons learned make it easy for me to speak from experience regarding various topics, and my faith. For now, I’ll start with sharing facts regarding the construction company created by my husband and myself, Darrin and Teresa, thus the name D & T Construction.
First and foremost, we built our business on the rock, which is our faith in Jesus Christ and God is continuing to bless us in it! We give Him Praise for every good thing! We know exactly where our help comes from, and we persistently seek His guidance and direction in decisions, as we face them.
Together, we have worked to build a successful business over the past twenty-five plus years. We intentionally represent ourselves as a Christian owned and operated business. By doing so, we are boldly sharing our faith, and giving God the Glory for its success.
The Bible verse we chose for our construction business is Mathew 7:24: “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Our business ventures together began with Darrin operating a framing crew, framing homes for other builders. This enabled me to be a stay at home mom, which I loved! The office work was my domain and I handled all of the office work necessary to maintain a business. Eventually, this grew into operating multiple framing crews at the same time and it was a very successful business.
In looking back, I recognize that we easily could have settled on that, but the dreams we shared were for more. Thoughts of becoming licensed builders ourselves was in the back of our minds, but definitely seemed like a longshot, unreachable even. We prayed for that opportunity either way.
It took time, but eventually God answered those prayers and we both got our Residential Builders Licenses ~
We started building spec homes and this gave me opportunities to get involved in the design side of the business. I enjoyed this new endeavor, and the escape from office work. We were genuinely excited and thankful for the new direction we were able to take the business in.
Next, we branched out into building custom homes for clients, thus D & T Custom Homes was added to our name. We have been extremely blessed to build dream homes for others, including some friends and family. We are grateful for each person that chose us! So to any who read my column, THANK YOU!
Somewhere in this timeline, I obtained my General Contractor’s License, and that’s a story to be shared another time…
Building spec homes led to getting my Real Estate License ~
Becoming a Realtor, was first intended for just listing and selling the homes we were building. However, it also opened up other avenues for friendships and business, and God has blessed me with the inclusion of it. Again, I say THANK YOU, to all who have allowed me to represent them in a transaction!

Let me remind you that in the first post of the Uniquely Constructed Series I told you that “I wear many different hats!” Hopefully, by now you can agree with that assessment.
God’s faithfulness is evident in my story. I’m hoping that you can see that He has not been limited to blessing just one area of my life! God has unlimited resources and His provision has opened doors of opportunity to us throughout the years!
All of this required us to do our part, work hard, and trust Him in the waiting times. It’s not always been easy, and in fact there’s been many struggles along the way. However, God’s timing was right on time.
Even though you haven’t asked for it, I have a little advice for anyone who is stepping out to do new things. No matter what that thing is, “Build it on the rock, share your faith boldly and follow God’s Will for it!”
As for me, I don’t know what God has in store next, but I’m excited to find out!
Lastly, I’ll say that I know God is still opening doors to the dreams in my heart! Writing this column is proof of that fact.
It’s exciting to step into this new direction and I’m seeking God’s favor in this current venture, and all future ones! And what’s more, I’m honestly expecting Him to pour out His blessings, in His Timing, of course!
