Nijay’s SBL 2023 Book Picks (Gospels and Acts)

Nijay’s SBL 2023 Book Picks (Gospels and Acts) November 14, 2023

It’s that time of the year, where introverted scholars from all over the world head to one place to geek out on books and new research. Whether you are going or not, publishers often advertise special sale prices during the end of the year. So, I will be doing a short blog series on my “book picks” to check out this year. The first category is Gospels and Acts.

GOSPELS AND ACTS

First up, Frank Dicken’s Reading Luke, a concise guide to studying the Third Gospel.

Also, a page-turner from Holly Carey, this is an incredibly insightful book about women disciples in the gospels.

Women Who Do: Female Disciples in the Gospels

On Acts, check out Joy Vaughan’s work on spiritual phenomena.

Phenomenal Phenomena: Biblical and Multicultural Accounts of Spirits and Exorcism

Last, but not least, Mike Bird’s latest:

A Bird’s Eye View of Luke and Acts

PREVIEW

Not out yet, but coming in early 2024, Patrick Schreiner’s study of the Transfiguration, looks stellar.

The Transfiguration of Christ
