The Prayer That Never Fails – Thy Will Be Done

The Prayer That Never Fails – Thy Will Be Done November 8, 2023

Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome. The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; you destroy those who tell lies. Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies – make your way straight before me.

Psalm 5: 1-6, 8

Everyone is fighting a battle. Today you may be fighting a battle for your family, your job, your health, your spiritual wellbeing. Or perhaps your battle may be against unhealthy personal habits that are slowly and incrementally destroying your life. Maybe the foe you are facing is a silent one – you are giving way to discouragement and despair because all around you are observing the evil win. So as we begin to battle against our foes, we pray with a submissive heart attitude, “Thy will be done.”

In truth, it matters not what the form of our enemy engagement takes because God desires the same response from us no matter what opposition faces us. God’s Word instructs us to come to him in daily prayer and we are to pour our heart’s cry for rescue, for relief, for the strength to conquer our enemies whatever these foes look like.

As we commit ourselves to the care and keeping of God Almighty in the midst of our fiercest battles, we can then wait expectantly for God to act. For we know (because the Bible tells us so) that God is not pleased with wickedness, nor with evil people or the arrogant ones. God’s Word assures us that he hates all who do wrong and he will destroy those who tell lies.

Finally, we can exhale our emotional and mental and spiritual exhaustion. God’s grace and strength and protection is promised us for he will lead us in righteousness. He will make our paths straight. What a comfort! What a promise! What a Mighty God we serve!

And how about that prayer that never fails? It’s simple. It’s failsafe. It gets results every time. As you get on your knees today before our holy God and pour out your heart before him, make sure to end your supplications with these powerful words, “Thy will be done.”

Questions for Personal Reflection:

  1. As you begin your day, take time to sit in silence before God and reflect upon his power and majesty. How does quiet contemplation before the God of the universe help you face your enemies with inner peace and strength?
  2. When reflecting upon today’s battles meditate on God’s glorious character and unchanging attributes which will help you to keep your focus upon him rather than your problems.
  3. As you go through your day, discipline yourself to take time every hour to read and reread a short passage of the Bible so that your mind is continually renewed by God’s powerful truth. How does meditating on Scripture strengthen you from within?
  4. Have you ever prayed the prayer that never fails? Try incorporating it into every prayer you pray as an act of submission to God’s perfect plan for your life.
