It’s always a blessing to share a meal– both physically and spiritually with other believers. It’s a great opportunity to fellowship and get into detail with a friend after you’ve read the word as a group. You may be looking for your next bible study snack or a new recipe to try and share with your bible study family.  From sweat treats to savory snacks, these recipes will make for a beautiful addition to your time in the word. 

Sweet Treats 

Try these delicious desserts that will go well with a cup of coffee. 

1. Oatmeal Cookies 

Cookies are always a wholesome and heart treat. Let the cookie dough chill for four days if you want it to be extra chewy and soft in the center. This allows the oats to soak in the eggs and vanilla extract. 

Ingredients

⅔ cup plain flour 

⅔ cup oat flour 

1 ½ cup rolled oats 

⅓ cup medium or coarse oatmeal 

1 cup dried fruit. Cherries raisins or cranberries. 

½ cup chopped walnuts

1tsp bicarbonate of soda 

¾ cup room temperature butter 

½ cup White sugar 

½ cup light brown sugar 

1tsp fine salt 

1 whole egg

1 egg yolk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions 

  1. Soak the fried fruit in hot water while you make the dough.
  2. Whisk the butter until it’s soft then add a pinch of coarse salt and the sugars.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the mixture and whisk some more.
  4. Combine the mixture with the rest of the dry ingredients and fold into the dough.
  5. Drain the fruit, pat dry and combine with the dough.
  6. Add the oat flour and oatmeal, then the walnuts 
  7. Cover the dough in plastic wrap and chill for an hour. If you want a chewy center, let the dough chill for four days. 
  8. Preheat the oven to 400F/200C
  9. You may need a few baking trays for all the cookies. On oiled and lined baking trays, roll balls of 50g and place 5 on each tray. 
  10. Bake for 18 minutes or until golden brown.

2. Sweet Potato Brownies 

Looking for a healthy yet sweet bible study snack? Try a twist on your favorite brownie recipe and add sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are a great source of betacarotene, fiber and vitamins. Plus, the sweetness can reduce the sugar and butter in your brownie dough if you want a healthy sweet snack. To get the best of their buttery sweetness, roast them first. High heat brings out sweet potato’s natural sugars, which go well with cocoa and chocolate’s rich flavor profiles. 

Ingredients

1 medium sweet potato, cooked and mashed

1 cup almond butter

1/2 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup coconut sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg replacement (such as flax or chia eggs)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. 
  2. Line a baking dish with parchment paper.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potato, almond butter, coconut sugar, cocoa powder, maple syrup, baking soda, and salt. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and egg replacement to the mixture and stir well.
  5. If using nuts, fold them into the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth out the top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes. 
  8. Let the brownies cool completely before you serve them. 

3. Red Velvet White Choc-Chip Cookies

This recipe is a unique take on the classic chocolate chip cookie. These cookies will be a hit if you want to surprise your bible study group with a 

Ingredients

 2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

¾  cup granulated sugar

½  cup brown sugar

 2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

 ½  teaspoon red food coloring

½  cup white chocolate chips

 ½  cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2.  In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. Add the food coloring and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the white chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).
  6. Scoop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7.  Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set and the centers are slightly soft. The cookies will still be slightly pink in the center.
  8.  Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

4. Lemon Bars 

For those days when you want to take something with but are short on time – these 2 ingredient lemon bars are easy to make. You combine lemon angel food cake mix and lemon pie filling. Gently combine the cake mix with the lemon filling using a spatula. Spread the batter in lined casserole dish and bake for 30 minutes or until slightly brown. Let them cool, then add some lemon zest or candied lemon peel for extra flavor.

These savory dishes will work well as sides for a cozy bible study dinner. 

5. Lasagna

This is the perfect recipe for a cozy evening in the Word. It’s delicious, creamy, and can be slightly messy, so you might want to encourage people to use the Bible App to share scripture this time to avoid spilling cheese on their bibles.  to use  It’s also keto-friendly – perfect for the carb-conscious but still packed with cheesy flavor. Roll your sleeves up! You will be making your own lasagna noodles for this recipe. 

Ingredients for the dough

2 large eggs

4 ounces cream cheese full-fat

1 1/2 cups of grated mozzarella,  low moisture part-skim 

1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning mix

Ingredients for Lasagna filling

1 pound ground beef

1 cup grated part-skim mozzarella cheese

1 marinara sauce, sugar free

1/4 minced onions

1 tsp  Italian spice.

6 tbsp Ricotta cheese

Instructions 

  1. To make the noodles, mix ingredients in a food processor.
  2. Pour the batter into a baking pan and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.
  3. Cook beef and onions in a skillet, then add marinara and Italian seasoning. 
  4. Slice the noodle dough into thirds. 
  5. Spread the meat filling in a loaf pan, then add cheese dough, mozzarella, and ricotta. 6. Repeat the layers until ingredients run out. 
  6. Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 

6. Pretzels 

Everyone will love these soft, salty pretzels at your next bible study meet-up.  Although this is a savory recipe, you can make it sweet by leaving out the salt, then coat it with melted butter and cinnamon sugar when out of the oven. Make a double batch if you have a bigger group. 

Ingredients for the dough

1 ½ cups lukewarm water

1 packet dry yeast

1tsp salt

1 tbsp brown sugar

3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour 

A pinch of salt 

Ingredients for the baking soda bath

½ cup baking soda

9 cups water 

Instructions 

  1. Whisk activated yeast, salt, brown sugar and melted butter. 
  2. Slowly mix in 3 cups of the flour with a wooden spoon.
  3. Continue to add the ¾ flour that’s left over until your dough stops being sticky The dough is ready if you poke it with a finger and it bounces back.
  4. Put the dough on a surface with flour and knead for a few minutes.
  5. Put the dough in a bowl and cover with a towel for 10 minutes. 
  6. To form the pretzels, divide the dough into 8 parts or ⅓  cup portions. Roll the portions individually and twist into a pretzel shape then press down gently at the end. 
  7. Bring the baking soda bath ingredients to a boil. Drop two pretzels in the mixture at a time for about 30 seconds then place on a lined baking sheet. 
  8. Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse salt and bake at 350F until they turn golden brown.
