Matthew Chapter 25
When our daughters were growing up; my husband and I wanted to instill in them a heart of service for others. Especially for what the Bible refers to as the “least of these.” (Matthew 25:45). A little refresher on the Matthew 25 context; Jesus was having a mentoring and coaching moment with His disciples illustrating what the Kingdom of God is like. He began by talking about the need for His disciples to stay ready with the parable of the ten virgins. Then Jesus talked about differences in talents and the required faithfulness from His disciples according to their given talents. Jesus’ last talk in the chapter was on differentiating between the sheep and the goats. During this talk, Jesus gave one of the differentiating factors; which is serving the least of these by feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, inviting the stranger, clothing the naked, visiting the sick, and visiting the prisoner. In essence, Jesus was letting His disciples understand what a selfless life in the Kingdom of God looks like. A life that considers others.
Heart of Service
To instill in our daughters back then a heart of service, we volunteered with Big Heart Ministries serving the homeless during the holidays, such as Easter, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. We are so glad we did! Now as adults, each daughter has learned the Biblical truth behind Acts 20:35– “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
2023 Serve Day
Did you know that a day is designated to serve the least of these? That is Serve Day on Saturday, July 15! The day is set aside to make a difference in the world through acts of service. Basically, doing whatever will benefit the least of these in communities, serve them! From churches, ministries, organizations, and companies, we have the opportunity to be Jesus’ hands and feet in our communities. So parents, find somewhere to serve the least of these on July 15th with your children.

Quote By John Wesley
John Wesley-one of the nineteen children of Samuel and Susanna Wesley, is well known as one of the 17th Century leaders in the revival movement and Great Awakening in England. With a passion to see people come to salvation in Christ, John had a heart for the least of these. He penned the following quote that has been a beacon of hope for Christ ministers around the world.
Do all the good you can
By all the means you can
In all the places you can
At all the times you can
To all the people you can
As long as you ever can
For us serving others is a lifestyle. It helps us keep the main thing the main thing, as we allow our hands and feet to be Jesus’s through our lives. It brings us great delight and pleasure. Saturday, July 15th will find us praying for the least of these with our church hiking group and we will keep to heart John Wesley’s quote.
